2023

Thank you media!

More than 40 local celebrities shadowed crossing guards on duty at DPS schools the morning of National Walk/Roll to School Day, October 4, 2023. Celebrities wore reflective yellow vests with their name on the back (like a football jersey).

The celebrities handed out raffle tickets to students for a chance to win lunch with the principal or their favorite staff member. Not only did this event get kids excited about walking/rolling to school, it also highlighted the important service that crossing guards provide to students and communities – they cross all ages and abilities! It also promoted the need for more crossing guards at DPS schools. Crossing guards are especially important where busy roads block safe access of otherwise-walkable routes to school.
